SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH

1. PUBLIC HEALTH: PGD, MPH, MSc, MPhil, DrPH, DrCH, PhD (PH)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates for admission to higher degree programmes shall normally be graduates of UNIMED or other Universities/Institutions recognized by the Senate. Admission shall be made by the Postgraduate School on the recommendation of the appropriate Faculty Postgraduate Committee. Candidates should be prepared for a Test of Proficiency in English Language and /or interview / subject test as may be indicated by the Faculty/Department running the programme.
Post graduate programmes in Public Health
A. PGD (One calendar year)
PGD Public Health
PGD Health Statistics
PGD Environmental Health
Bachelor degree in disciplines not necessarily health related with a minimum of Third Class or Higher National Diploma (with a minimum of lower credit) or its equivalent.
B. Masters Degrees (One calendar year)
1. Master in Public Health (MPH), with specialization in one of the following options:
a. Epidemiology & Biostatistics
b. Health Policy and Management
c. Environmental Health
d. Population, Family & Reproductive Health
e. Health Promotion & Behavioural Sciences

2. Master of Science Degree in Public Health (MSc)

3. Master of Science Degree in Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences (MSc)

4. Master of Science Degree in Community Health (MSc) with specialization in one of the following options:
a Community Maternal and Child Health Care
b Primary Health Care Operations
c Community Health Practice
d Community Health Education

5. Master of Science Degree in Environmental Health Science with specialization in one of the following options:
a. Pollution Control Management (PCM)
b. Environmental Epidemiology (EEP) c. Solid and Special Waste Management (SWM)
d. Food Hygiene, Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQ)
e. Vector Control and Pest Management (VPM)
f. Health Education and Promotion (HEP)

These programmes are for graduates of Medical and Health-focused disciplines who are on relevant professional or academic registers; holders of relevant PGDs or its equivalent or graduates of allied health sciences with a minimum of second class lower
C. MPhil/PhD programmes (One calendar year)
1. Public Health
2. Community Health
3. Environmental Health Science
These programmes are for eligible holders of academic MPH MSc and related degrees with 50-59.9 % aggregate score; or holders of the Part I of the Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College or West African College of Physicians in Public / Community Health. All MPhil/PhD candidates will be assessed on their merit.

D. Doctoral programmes with specializations (Three calendar years)
1. PhD Public Health
2. PhD Environmental Health Science
3. PhD Community Health
4. Doctor of Public Health (DrPH)
These programmes are for eligible and relevant holders of MPH/MSc Public Health or related Degree with PhD grade, assessed on their own merit. Part II Fellows of the National Postgraduate Medical College or West African College of Physicians in Public/Community Health may be admitted into the 2 years (six semesters) programme of the Doctoral programmes by Thesis. Non Community Health Fellows and Post Part I Public/Community Health residents (with academic MPH/M.Sc.PH) may be exempted from selected course-works based on their prior fellowship training and specialty. The DrPH degree is for top professionally and clinically qualified (Medical and Nursing) graduates with an MPH or MPhil Degree with PhD grade, and assessed on their own merit. PhD candidates who finished secondary school on or before 1993 will have their O level results assessed on its own merit.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PROGRAMMES

AVAILABLE PROGRAMMES

Master of Science (M.Sc.)
An applicant for admission into the M.Sc. degree programme shall be a graduate of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) Ondo, or any other approved University recognized by the UNIMED Senate, and with a minimum of Second Class (Lower Division) in the relevant discipline. Candidates with Third Class Bachelor’s degree or HND (Upper Credit) who in addition, possess a Postgraduate diploma (PGD) with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a 5.00 scale in a relevant discipline may be considered. Candidates who are not UNIMED graduates may be required to satisfy the Department requirements for admission via an interview/examination or both


Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
Applicants for this programme should be: i. Holders of Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) degree with a research thesis in any of the areas of specialization stated above. ii. Holders of a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics with a minimum weighted average of 60%. iii. Candidates that are not UNIMED graduate may be required to satisfy the Department requirement for admission via an interview/examination or both.


General Requirements for all UNIMED Postgraduate Programmes:
Interested candidates shall complete the application form on the University portal and provide all relevant documents as specified on the application form, including certificates of degrees and/or diplomas, academic transcripts, three (3) reference letters, and a 500-words statement of intent in the proposed research area. All programmes in the University require O’ Level Credit pass in English Language and Mathematics in addition to three other credits in relevant subjects. Candidates who are Nigerian citizens shall, in addition, provide the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate. Each candidate shall request and ensure that the institution(s) attended process and forward official academic transcript(s) directly to the Dean, Postgraduate School. Only candidates whose transcripts are received will be considered for admission.

Duration of the Postgraduate Programmes
The Master’s programmes shall be for a minimum period of three (3) academic semesters (18 calendar months) and maximum of five (5) academic semesters while some others may extend to minimum of four (4) academic semesters (24 calendar months) and maximum of six (6) academic semesters while Ph.D. programmes are for a minimum of six (6) academic semesters (36 calendar months) and maximum of eight (8) academic semesters.

Then, take the following steps: -
i. Click on Admission;
ii. Click on Postgraduate School;
iii. Candiadates will be directed to https://www.spgs.unimed.edu.ng/
iv. Click on Student's Portal;
v. On the dropdown list ;
vi. Click on PAYMENT to make payment via online payment system using VISA or MASTER card. Note that VERVE card is not allowed.
vii. After payment, print payment receipt
viii. Click on STUDENT'S PORTAL, and on the dropdown list choose APPLICATION LOGIN, your payment Transaction ID is your password.
